Dr. Pauline Giffin

Veterinarian and Owner

As the proud owners of Waverley Animal Hospital, my husband and I wish to personally welcome you and your family to our community veterinary practice. It is our profound pleasure to be entrusted with the care of your pets. Rest assured that when you are with us, you are with family!

I cannot recall a time in life when I did not love to be surrounded by animals. It was my dream as a child to be able to work with animals and help them in any way that I could. It was with great joy that I graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2003 and I have had the amazing opportunity to serve HRM as a small animal veterinarian since 2004. While I love all aspects of veterinary medicine, I have a keen interest in internal medicine, dermatology, and behaviour. Working on behalf of stray, homeless, and abandoned animals has always been a passion of mine and I am committed to helping rescue animals in need whenever I can.

I am originally from Dartmouth and my husband, John, and I moved to the Village of Waverley, NS almost 20 years ago. We immediately fell in love with the old-world charm, beauty and amazing community spirit of the area. Here, we are raising 2 wonderful daughters surrounded by the love of many delightful pets in our home… 1 dog, 1 cat, 1 hamster, 2 guinea pigs and many foster kitties! From my family to yours, WELCOME and we cannot wait to meet you!

I graduation from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2017 and then moved to Cold Lake, AB where I practiced small animal medicine. I moved back to Nova Scotia in 2019 and worked in the Annapolis Valley before finding my home at Waverley Animal Hospital. I have a special interest in feline medicine, ophthalmology and diagnostic imaging.

I am originally from Middleton, NS and live with my husband, Morgan, and our two cats, Hope and Toby. Registered Veterinary Technician

Hello! My name is Emily Van Horne, I have been working as a Veterinary Technician since April 2017 and it has been the most amazing experience. I started working at Halifax Veterinary Hospital after I graduated in 2017. I received my diploma from Dalhousie Agricultural College. As a kid I was fascinated with animals, all I wanted to do was bring them home and take care of them. I am very grateful that I am able to channel this passion in my career. My first actual experience working with animals was at Hope for Wildlife, where I volunteered as a teenager. During this experience, I had the opportunity to work with many amazing veterinary technicians who inspired me with their drive, compassion and selflessness. I knew that this is what I wanted to do. I have been happy with my decision ever since! The area of veterinary medicine that interests me the most is lab work and anesthesia. The part of my job that I love the most is providing nursing care for animals, and helping them feel comfortable while in the hospital. Some of my hobbies include music, sailing and gardening. I am looking forward to getting to know the community in Waverley!

In her free time, Katelynn enjoys spending time with her family and fur friends (Dawson, Beans, Penney and Prim).

Veterinary Assistant

Being from Newfoundland, I always loved the outdoors and animals. I don’t remember a time where I didn’t have a dog or cat running around or even rodents…pet ones of course!!! For as long as I can remember, I wanted a job in the animal field. Helping animals was my passion! I came to NS in 2003 and soon after, I started as an Animal Control Officer. After that, I worked in a vet clinic for almost a decade as a receptionist/veterinary assistant. This was everything I had hoped and dreamed it would be. I love meeting people and all the adorable fur kids. Whether it is your first visit with that new puppy or kitten to watching them grow up, to routine visits, I am always happy to be there for you and your beloved pet! I have a daughter who is 3 years old. She is already saying when she grows up, she wants to be an animal doctor! She’s loves her animals just as much as I do!! Future veterinarian in training!! I have 2 dogs: Keira-15 years old & Shyla – 14 years old! They just recently got a new kitty brother named Brody. He fits in with our family perfectly and let us not forget about my boy, Diablo, who is a corn snake…he is 10 years old now!

Client Care Specialist

Having moved to the area from the UK with her family thirteen years ago, Katie has been able to pursue her lifelong love of and talent for caring for animals both inside and outside of her work. Caring for pets has become a calling for Katie, she feels that the unconditional love we get from our pets is the most rewarding part of being around animals. Locally she worked in a dog grooming shop for over five years and more recently at a local pet store providing pet-care advice and assistance to the community. She is very excited to start a new journey to help pet parents care for their fury companions. In her personal time, she has fostered many dogs in desperate situations and with special needs for local rescue organizations, helping them find their forever homes. Katie has had many pets of her own including rescues and currently cherishes her three dogs and two cats. Katie lives with her husband and two daughters in Fall River.
